From 21.06 until 07.09.2025. Turaida Museum Reserve is hosting an exhibition of Ieva Krūmiņa’s illustrations for the collection of quotes by the Persian poet Rumi “Divrindes”.

The artist Ieva Krūmiņa describes the exhibition: “The key to the illustrations became an ornament – a language encoded in geometric shapes and symbols, which, as it turns out, is close and understandable to people living in the Baltic cultural space. Many years ago, while researching, comparing and reading books on oriental carpets, I came to the conclusion that Baltic and Middle Eastern cultures have many similar written character elements, moreover, our ancestors used similar compositional forms of expression, proportions of patterns and color schemes.

This can be seen in the large tree of the world drawing, in which Latvian, Azerbaijani and Persian pattern motifs grow together. Not everyone could separate them and accurately sort them by ethnicity, probably not even me. It makes you think about the roots of civilization and the existence between heaven and earth – the place where art is born.”

Artist Ieva Krūmiņa is a professor at the Textile Department of the Latvian Academy of Arts, a member of the Latvian Artists’ Union and the Textile Artists’ Association, and a participant and curator of many international exhibitions.

Ieva Krūmiņa’s works are in collections all over the world, having received a number of international awards. The artist has more than 20 years of experience in various art exhibitions in Latvia, Poland, Morocco, the USA, China, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Azerbaijan, South Korea and other places in the world.
